Good to be back!

Zoals de naam al zegt: het is heeerlijk om weer terug te zijn waar het allemaal begon; Park City! Zelfde slee, zelfde baan, zelfde mensen, zelfde huis. Eindelijk niet allemaal nieuwe dingen! Leuk om naar een plaats te gaan die je al bekend voorkomt en in een huis te verblijven, wat stiekem ook wel een beetje een thuis wordt. We zitten hier nu al weer bijna een week en alweer meer dan genoeg mee gemaakt!

Allereerst de jetlag. Ik moet zeggen dat die deze keer meevalt! Begin er al bijna ervaren in te worden! Ook boodschappen doen blijft geweldig! Eten is dan ook zeer belangrijk als bobsleeër zijnde! Kijken of we er weer 3 kilo aan kunnen krijgen! De auto is deze keer wel wat opgepimpt: het zijn er nu 2 geworden waarvan eentje echt een mega pick-up! Nice! Ook hebben we natuurlijk de Outlet Nike store weer een bezoekje gebracht en gaan de koffers wat gevulder mee terug!
Woensdag konden we ons oude vertrouwde sleetje ophalen. Hoewel die er toch iets meer gecrasht uitzag dan de vorige keer. Donderdag konden we hem meteen uitproberen met 2 runs van junior start en 2 vanaf de top. En hij sleede weer als vanouds! Ik daar en tegen nog niet helemaal. Het was zeker spannend om weer te gaan sleeën op een baan waar je al eens bent geweest; kan ik het nog en was het vorige keer niet gewoon geluk? Gelukkig nog genoeg dagen om daar achter te komen!

Vrijdag hadden we meteen al een dagje vrij en was het tijd voor een road tripje! Hoe kan je nou in Salt Lake City zijn geweest, zonder het Salt Lake te hebben gezien! We zijn niet naar het great Salt Lake gegaan, maar naar Bonneville: een zoutvlakte waar mensen zich kunnen uitleven met speedraces. Ook hebben we even aan onze gokverslaving kunnen werken in het casino. Echt waar, alsof je in Las Vegas was ofzo met vooral veel oude omaatjes die echt veel geld uit de machines halen (*hoe veel ze daarvoor er hebben in moeten stoppen is een ander verhaal…) Zelf hebben we natuurlijk ook even een gokje gewaagd! En de enige die bij ons niet mocht gokken, ruilt gewoon even 1 dollar om voor 10 dollar! Hoppa!

Maar we zijn natuurlijk niet voor niets in Amerika en het was weer tijd voor sleeën! Serieus, nog steeds is het eigenlijk het een heel bizar maar ook zo’n gaaf idee dat ik hier in Amerika aan het bobsleeën ben! Wie had dat een jaar geleden gedacht? Ik zeker niet…
Zaterdag meteen een nieuw snelheidsrecord en personals best neergezet; met 128.2 km/h zijn we in 52.51 sec gefinisht! Maar ik moet daarbij wel zeggen dat het ijs super snel is! Het grootste probleem is eigenlijk nu dat ik last heb van ‘mannenhanden’, wat betekent dat ik veel te hard stuur. Maar door een paar flinke tikken op mijn handen en voornamelijk die tegen de kanten helpen me om het langzamerhand af te leren.

De komende 2 dagen zijn de vrouwen vrij omdat er alleen mannen training is. Wel zullen we bij de baan staan om de mannen te helpen, maar natuurlijk ook om veel sleeën te zien en veel te leren! Donderdag begint voor ons de WJC training en zullen we volle bak gaan, zodat we zondag tijdens de wedstrijd some ass kunnen gaan kicken!
